Casa Itzatna | MMP
CASA ITZATNA is our collective HQ located at 11 Oakland Road, Moseley, Birmingham B13 9DN..
You can arrange to visit us via emailing us on contact [at] itzatna.org with the subject line 'Casa Itzatna'
The Migrant Milpa Project (MMP)
The migrant milpa project is a community garden project just downstairs from Casa Itzatna. It will be a space for our neighbours and the BIMPoC community of Moseley, Birmingham to enjoy, grow our own food, and create art together. A "milpa" is a specific type of small communal field in Mexico that is cleared from the forest and cropped for a few seasons, where a local community frow multiple kinds of crops. This project is directly inspired by the Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata's phrase "La Tierra es de quién la trabaja" (The earth belongs to those who work it).
MMP will centre these kinds of BIMPoC ways of gardening and taking care of the land. This garden will be a general collective work, a self-sustaining oasis for ourselves as a small family of tenants/neighbours as well as a wider outreach in the local BIMPoC Refugee and Migrant communities of south Birmingham, and an act of resistance and visibility within a predominantly middle-class white-British neighbourhood of Moseley Birmingham.

As the Birmingham Commonwealth Games circus draws ever closer, Join ITZATNA Arts this Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend in a secret location, for a well-deserved tea break away from the endlessly fluttering Union Jack bunting of our tax-dodging, feudal overlords… Expect an Open Mic, political piñatas, bonfire beacons, afternoon tea, tombola prizes, and more, as we collectively create a subversive, anti-Imperialist twist on a very British tradition..! This is a working classy tea party BY ‘peasants’ - FOR ‘peasants’! Part of the Big Lunch 2022 and supported by Grand Plan.
