ixi'im
men of maize
'IXI'IM (2022)' is a new multisensory performance ritual by IZATNA developed out of their recent project Hanal Pixan: Food For All Souls (2021) - an immersive dining experience inspired by Mexican Day of the Dead that explored life, death and rebirth, ancestors, eating, ritual and ceremony through the myth, cuisine, and politics of corn maize, native to Mexico.
In Ixi'im actors will use maize corn cobs to represent the various (post)colonial violence that indigenous people suffered during colonialsm. With backdrop visuals from video artist Moisés Mendez, sound design from Xavier Velastín, and cooking by Alfredo Hau. This show will captivate and engage audiences and bring them closer to their heritage. Part of Performance Platform´s double bill 2021 |
